Question: The access code I got when I upgraded won't work. What is the problem?

your computer. If you get such messages, please email KCAT support or call toll-free 1-877-365-9633.
Question: What is the Cybernetic Poet?
Answer: The Cybernetic Poet is a collection of programs that help you write poetry.
Question: How can I get the Cybernetic Poet?
Answer: Click on the "Download Free Software" link at the top of this page.
Question: What is the difference between the free and the premium editions?
Answer: The free edition provides the Poet's Assistant (a WordPad-like program
that suggests alliterations, rhymes, words and phrases while you type), a screen saver, and 50
"poet personalities". The premium edition provides everything in the free version, plus some
software to allow you to create your own "poet personalities", plus 50 more prepared poet
personalities.
Question: What happens when I install the software on my computer?
Answer: The setup program creates a folder, creates some application programs in
the folder, adds some other programs to your Windows folder, and adds some information to the
registry of your computer. The setup program does not change any existing settings on your computer,
and all programs you have now are not affected by the installation of the Cybernetic Poet.
Question: Can I easily unistall the software?
Answer: Yes. Just run the uninstall.exe in the Cybernetic Poet folder on your computer's
desktop.
Question: How do I write poetry?
Answer: Start up the Poet's Assistant. You will see a white composition area, and
a Poet's Assistant pop-up box at the right of the screen. Begin typing your thoughts. As you type
the Poet's Assistant pop-up box will generate suggestions for alliterations, rhymes and turns of
phrase. Select and insert the suggestions you like into your poetry.
If you have writer's block,
you might find it useful to have the Poet's Assistant generate an initial poem for you which you
then modify. To create an initial poem, click on the "Rest of Poem" tab in the Poet's Assistant
pop-up-box.
Question: How do I install the screen saver?
Answer: The software for the screen saver is copied onto your computer when you install
the free version. To select the Cybernetic Poet as your screen saver, click on your desktop with the
right mouse button, click on the "Properties" menu item on the menu that pops up, click on the
"Screen Saver" tab in the dialog box that pops up, and select "Ray Kurzweil's Cybernetic Poet" from the drop
down list on the "Screen Saver" page.
Question: How do I create my own poet personalities?
Answer: Three steps are required:
(1) Create poetry template files from your poetry or other poetry
which you have in ASCII (make sure you have copyright permission to use other people's poetry)
(2)Convert the poetry template files into style files using the Poet Analyzer.
(3)Combine poetry styles with poet settings using the Poet Creator to create poet personalities.
For much more
detail, read the Help instructions for creating your own poet personalities.
Question: I keep getting an error message that says "missing export MFC42.DLL:6453". What is the problem?
Answer: The problem is that you don't have the MFC42.DLL and MSVCRT.DLL files in your
Windows System folder. You can get copies by clicking on the following links:
MFC42.DLL
MSVCRT.DLL
Once you download these files to your desktop, move them to your Windows System folder.
If you already have these files in your Windows System folder, do not overwrite them. Instead, contact
Kurzweil technical support at the number or email address above.
Question: I'm using AOL. I click on the "Tell a friend" button in the Poet's Assistant. AOL starts up, but I get a blank
screen. What is the problem?
Answer: The "Tell a friend" button relies on a connection between the Poet's Assistant
and the AOL program. For some AOL users, the connection between the Cybernetic Poet program and
AOL won't work properly. We continue to investigate the problem.
